First U.S. woman in space,Sally Ride dies

24 July 2012, Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, has died of pancreatic cancer. She died at her home in La Jolla, Calif. She was 61. Below, Ride monitoring the control panels from the pilot's chair on the shuttle Columbia in June 1983.
