In 2010, whole trees were made into cocoons in Pakistan by spiders!

In July 2010, record breaking monsoons brought nearly 10 years worth of rainfall down on Pakistan in just one week. The rivers overflowed and flooded huge areas in the country. The water didn’t recede quickly enough, and huge stagnant bodies of water scattered across the countryside.
It was said to be a slow motion type of disaster. Spiders and other insects sought refuge in the trees. There were so many that entire trees became massive cocoons for them. They spun webs that covered the trees as a whole. People standing under the trees had lots of little spiders falling down on their heads.
Locals said that they’d never seen anything like it before. Other countries that have faced massive flooding like Japan, have witnessed the same phenomenon. The type of spider that would have the capability to do this to a tree is a social spider.
They travel in groups and make a community together. They capture prey and share it with each other. The reason the trees are enveloped in a single web is due to the fact that the spiders are communal and worked together to create it.
