Punjab govt. approves release of imprisoned Indian RAW agent Sarjit Singh

28 May 2012, LAHORE: Punjab Government has given approval for release of Indian spy Sarjit Singh who is locked up in Lahore jail, SAMAA reported on Monday.

Indian spy Sarjit Singh, imprisoned in Kot lkhpat Jail, Lahore, had been awarded death penalty during former dictator Gen. Zia-ul-Haq but later on his punishment was reduced to life confinement.
Sarjit Singh completed his life imprisonment’s sentence in 2004 but due to ups and downs in Indo-Pak. ties his release continued hanging till date.
After Dr. Khalil Chishti’s release from India, the federal government asked Punjab Government to tell its opinion over Sarjit Singh’s release.
Punjab Government formed a committee under PML-N MNA Zahid Hamid on the issue, which approved today release of Indian spy.
The committee will forward its approvals to CM Punjab and after his approval those will be sent to the Federal Interior Ministry.
Later on, the Federal Government will announce date of Sarjit Singh’s release from Kot Lakhpat Jail of Lahore.
