Letter to Swiss officials can’t be written: Aitzaz tells SC

Islamabad: The seven-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Friday continued to hear contempt of court case against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Aitzaz Ahsan, the PM’s counsel, continued his arguments before the bench headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk.
He said that the Prime Minister thought that the letter to the Swiss officials could not be written at present.
He said that the ministry of law had advised the PM to not write letter the officials.
Justice Nasir-ul-Milk remarked that the matter relating to president’s immunity was not at all raised at the stage of review.
Aitzaz Ahsan said that writing letter to Swiss officials meant giving up on presidential immunity and added so long Asif Ali Zardari was the President the letter should not be written.
Justice Gulzar on this occasion queried, “What makes you scary about writing letter”?
Aitzaz replied that he was afraid of disgracing the President of Pakistan.
The adjured the hearing till April 24.
On Thursday, Ahsan submitted a report of United Nations to the bench regarding immunity enjoyed by the head of states against criminal and civil proceedings.
