Ex-DG ISI Pasha denies coup plot

ISLAMABAD: Former Director General ISI Lt.Gen.(R) Ahmed Shuja Pasha told the Memo Commission on Thursday that there was no plan of any coup after Osama’s death in May last year.
Pasha appeared before the commission and apprised it that the memo scandal was also brought into the notice of President Asif Ali Zardari, however Hussain Haqqani can tell the truth about the issue.
The meeting of the commission was held at Islamabad High Court under its Chairman and Chief Justice Baluchistan High Court Qazi Faiz Isa .Attorney General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq was also present on the occasion.
The commission had called former ambassador Hussain Haqqani for recording his statement but his lawyer Zahid Hussain Bukhari told the commission that his client is heart patient and he getting treatment in the USA, on which the commission showed its anger by saying that the orders of the court and commission are being violated.
Akram Shiekh lawyer of Mansoor Ijaz argued on the statement of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik .
Former DG ISI Lt.Gen.(R) Ahmed Shuja Pasha recorded his statement in which he told the commission that he met Mansoor Ijaz on 22 October 2011 for four hours in London in which Mansoor informed him about the contacts , which he made with Hussain Haqqani through black berry phone. During meeting he also showed some 35 message on his cellular set. He said that the matter related to national security and Haqqani can tell the truth.
The lawyers of PML(N) Chief Nawaz Sharif , Mustafa Ramday and Salah-ud-Din Mangal did cross-questioning on Pasha’s statement. Replying the questions from the lawyers Gen Pasha told the commission a meeting of President, Prime Minister and Army Chief was held in which Hussain Haqqani was also called. Then the matter was left on the will of political and military leadership. He said that according to his information Haqqani stayed at Presidency.
He said that he neither met Hussain Haqqani nor he(Haqqani) gave him any data regarding telephone record. He said that the statement of Ijaz about revolt was not true as if there would be something, ISI must had know it.
He said that a misperception was created that there was any rift between civilian government and army. Common man can not temper the data of black berry. If tempering would be carried out , then ISI can know about it.
He informed the commission that S-Wing of ISI is the operational wing , whereas total eight wings are functioning in it.
The commission said in its remarks that General Pasha is an impartial person and he does not belong to any party.
Zahid Bukhari also cross-questioned Pasha , on which former ISI chief said that he confirm the affidavit word by word that he had submitted earlier before the commission. He said that he did not take written permission from the Army Chief for meeting Mansoor Ijaz.
“After reading the articles of Ijaz , it seemed that he had an critical view on Pakistan, its army and intelligence agencies”, he added.
The Attorney General said he would not argue on the statement of Pasha.
